3 Holiday Winter Road Trip Essentials

With unpredictable winter weather on the way, it's important to be thoroughly prepared, especially if you're going to an unfamiliar destination or one that's remote. Make sure you're ready to go with the following three holiday road-trip tips for bringing essentials:

• Bring medications for all family members (including pets), and not just enough for the time you're traveling. Have extra just in case, and always keep medications in their designated, labeled packaging.
• Pack an emergency kit that includes extra cell phone chargers, warm blankets, jumper cables, food and water for humans and pets, a first aid kit, flashlight, emergency roadside flares, and an ice scraper. Having rock salt, a shovel, and kitty litter can also be helpful should you get stuck on ice or in the snow.
• Bring extra clothing. Say your heater stops working or—even worse—your car battery dies, or you run out of gas, you don't want to be stuck with just the clothes on your back in the freezing cold. You probably already have extra pants, shirts, and the like, but don't forget accessories like hats, scarves, gloves, socks, and boots.
