Ever since details began trickling out about the 2014 Jeep Cherokee, we've been anxiously waiting to learn more about what we can expect. The Jeep brand indicated the efficiency of the model would be quite impressive, and now it has officially released the EPA fuel efficiency ratings. We are quite excited to finally share them with all of you in the Pocatello, ID area.
While sporting the base engine, a 2.4-liter four cylinder engine that generates 184 horsepower, the Cherokee can achieve up to 21 mpg city/28 mpg highway, with a combined fuel efficiency rating of 22 mpg. When choosing the 3.2-liter V-6 option that cranks out 271 horsepower, the rating slightly decreases to 19 mpg city/27 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined. With either powertrain option, these ratings are quite impressive for a vehicle of its size.
These fuel economy estimates are so impressive because each engine option is coupled with the new nine-speed automatic transmission developed by Chrysler, which greatly improves efficiency. The model is also equipped to employ rear-axle disconnect in the event that the 4X4 drive isn't necessary.
The original estimate for the Cherokee was 31 mpg, a rating that could still be reached. This is because while the figures have been released for the four-wheel drive models, those for the front-wheel drive versions have yet to be unveiled. Once we learn more, we will be sure to keep you updated right here on our blog.
